THE UNIVERSITY of Reading has seen thousands of students graduate at locations, more than 7,000 miles apart.
The UK, South Africa and Malaysia hosted recent ceremonies where attendees enjoyed rather disparate weather conditions.
Chilly temperatures could not curb the enthusiasm of the 1,700 students who graduated at the London Road campus’ Great Hall on Thursday, December 8, and Friday, December 9.
Henley Business School Africa enjoyed its largest graduation ceremony in its 30-year history in sunny Johannesburg, while University of Reading Malaysia students celebrated completing their courses in August.
Professor Robert Van de Noort, vice-chancellor of the University of Reading, said: “Reading has been a truly international institution since we were founded. In today’s changing world, it is more important than ever for institutions and individuals to act locally but with a positive global vision.

“I was honoured to attend graduation in South Africa and met many colleagues, students and other stakeholders, including BrightSpark Foundation SA, a charitable organisation that supports children through education and has benefitted much from Henley’s support.
“In all these discussions, the mission of Henley Business School Africa is clear: to build the people to build the business that builds Africa.”
The institution was celebrating its first in-person graduation in three years, with 2,500 students receiving their degrees.
The University of Reading Malaysia’s most recent graduation ceremony took place at its Iskandar campus in Johor Bahru.
The institution opened in 2015 and offers a wide range of subjects, such as business, real estate, quantity surveying, law and psychology. All programmes are accredited both in the UK and Malaysia, allowing students to receive education in an international setting.
These graduation ceremonies mainly focused on those who had completed postgraduate qualifications, master’s degrees and doctorates, along with some undergraduates.
The University of Reading is ranked inside the top 200 of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
