STUDENTS heading back to university this September are being encouraged to submit their student finance applications before the June 23 deadline.

The Student Loans Company (SLC) is reminding returning full-time undergraduate students that they need to apply for each year of study and doing so before the deadline is the best way to guarantee their finances will be in place for the start of the new academic year.

This can be done by logging into their online accounts.

SLC paid more than £22 billion to 1.5 million students in maintenance loans, tuition fees and grants in the previous academic year.

Jackie Currie, SLC executive director, operations, said: “SLC processes hundreds of thousands of funding applications each summer and as always, our priority is to ensure that students have their funding in place for the start of term.

“Applying before the deadline will give our team the time needed to process your application and ensure that your funding is in place for the start of your next academic year.”

Applications can take six-eight weeks to be processed. Students will be notified of their funding entitlement once this has happened.

Parents and partners who are supporting applications should provide the relevant information as soon as they are asked to ensure there are no delays in the process.
