Twyford Singers are offering their Christmas treat of a varied concert – and the chance to join in with singing carols.
Among the performances this Saturday (December 9) will be A Winter’s Night, a Christmas cantata by Cecilia McDowell.
This is a modern take on five Christmas carols, In Dulci Jubilo, O Little One Sweet, Noel Nouvelet, Still, still, still and Sussex Carol.
The award-winning composer has been praised by Gramophone magazine for “constantly tweak[ing] the ear with her range of spicy rhythms and colours then suddenly produce[ing] a highly atmospheric and grippingly expressive interlude which is just as compelling”.
The programme’s wide range of other pieces includes a version of Winter Wonderland, arranged by the choir’s talented musical director Helen Styles, the beautiful Te Harinui (Great Joy) New Zealand carol, John Rutter’s Candlelight Carol, and many traditional English songs and carols.
The accompanist is Judith Creighton, the gifted player who accompanies rehearsals.
The concert at St Mary’s Church, Twyford starts at 7pm.
Tickets at £15 and £5 for under 18s are available from ticketsource.co.uk/twyford-singers, choir members, or at the door.
