TWO Reading choirs will sing together to help combat breast cancer.
The 60-strong Reading Male Voice Choir will be joined by the award-winning ladies’ choir, The Barberettes, for a programme of music in Reading..
Proceeds from the event will help to buy state of the art breast screening equipment for the Royal Berkshire Hospital’s mobile screening unit.
Clive Waterman, the choir’s musical director, said: “There are fewer better causes than helping to make sure Reading has the best mobile screening equipment.
“Women’s lives can depend on it, and as a male choir we are proud to be able to contribute. “We are also delighted that the ladies of The Barberettes will be singing with us.”
The Barberettes celebrate their 50th anniversary this year with a trip to the south of France to take part in an international choral competition.
They have won the Let’s Sing Reading competition three times, and performed in Dusseldorf, Reading’s German twin town, to mark its 725th anniversary.
Reading Male Voice Choir, which raises money for good causes, won the Champions of Reading 2024 competition, and has a record of foreign tours and concerts outside the Thames Valley.
In April they gave concerts in Devon and Cornwall but have performed in France, Ireland, The Netherlands Lithuania and Italy in recent years.
The joint concert, organised by the hospital’s fund-raising charity, is being held at All Saint’s Church, Downshire Square, Reading, on Friday, May 16.
The programme begins at 7pm, and tickets costing £12 can be purchased online from both choir’s websites.
