THE League of Friends of Berkshire Hospitals, a local health charity, has expressed great sadness following the death of its President, Dr Christina Hill-Williams DL.
Christina had been involved with the League of Friends since 2011, having previously served as the charity’s Chairman.
She had many years of experience in the healthcare and charitable sectors, including as CEO of two national charities, as an NHS Foundation Trust Governor and as a Mental Health Manager.
Christina had also served as a Deputy Lieutenant of Berkshire since 2005 and as the county’s High Sheriff in 2009/10.
Gary Brooks, Chairman of the League of Friends, said: “On behalf of the trustees, honorary vice-presidents, members and staff of the League of Friends, I want to pass on my condolences to Christina’s family, including her husband Clive, who is one of our trustees.
“No-one who knew Christina could doubt her dedication to improving the experience of patients using the Royal Berkshire Hospital and other health facilities in the county.
“She will be greatly missed by all of us, and by the many, many others for whom she made a real difference.”
The League of Friends of Berkshire Hospitals is a borough charity which supports patients and staff at the Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH) and Wokingham Hospital. The group raises money for projects to improve the experience for those receiving treatment, visitors, medical staff, and others who work at the hospitals.
Working closely with the RBH and Wokingham Hospital, but independent of them, the League of Friends makes sure that donations are focused on making things easier for patients.
With help from staff and volunteers they also run Friends Coffee House, Royal Berkshire Hospitals in Reading and Friends Coffee House in Wokingham Hospital.
