PROMINENT punk proponent Tom Robinson is set to perform at The Face Bar this weekend.
Following notoriety in the late 1970s as a bandleader an activist, Robinson has also been a vocal supporter of Rock Against Racism and reached the top twenty in the UK charts with Sing If You’re Glad To Be Gay, despite a ban by BBC Radio 1.
The band is also well-known for hits including 2-4-6-8 Motorway, Don’t Take No For An Answer, Up Against The Wall and Too Good To Be True.
In 2015, Robinson’s album Only The Now saw guest appearances from Billy Bragg, Sir Ian McKellan, John Grant, and Martin Carthy.
He has been a regular presenter on all eight of the BBC’s main radio stations for more than three decades, garnering him two Gold Sony Academy Radio awards.
He has also served as a member of the Ivor Novello Awards committee for ten years and has been awarded ASCA Gold Badge Award and fellowship of LIPA in recognition of his support for new music through BBC Introducing.
The Tom Robinson Band features Robinson on bass alongside Andy Treacey, drummer for Faithless; guitarist Adam Phillips of the Richard Ashcroft Band; keyboardist Jim Simmons; and Lee Forsyth Griffiths on acoustic guitar.
The Tom Robinson Band is playing at The Face Bar on Saturday, August 3, from 7.30pm.
