Reading FC captain Lewis Wing was quick to praise young star Andre Garcia after he rescued the team a point on their visit to Bolton Wanderers.
It looked as if Reading would be consigned to their fourth straight defeat to start their League One campaign until Garcia ensured they would travel back with their first point of the season.
The Royals were on the back foot throughout the first hour of the match and went a goal down following Mason Burstow’s strike which took a wicked deflection to beat Joel Pereira.
However, Reading got some luck of their own when Garcia’s shot hit a Bolton defender and looped over the goalkeeper to find the net.
Chances were few and far between as Reading’s goal scoring troubles look to have plagued them again before the 17-year-old popped up with their brightest moment of the match as he bagged his second goal of the season.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Garcia said: “I just wanted to come on and do my best. On Saturday I probably should have put one in so I thought I had to get a goal as soon as possible so I tried to make an impact and that’s what I did.
“I thought it was going over the bar but when it hit the back of the net it was nothing but celebrations after that.”
Wing added: “A lot of goals we’ve conceded at the minute have been the same as that (deflections), so for us to get one it was massive and it feels like a win tonight.
“The sky is the limit for this guy, since he has come in he has been nothing but a breath of fresh air, he’s been brilliant, what a moment for him.”
