In recognition of World Sickle Cell Awareness Day, local charity Cianna’s Smile has announced a new partnership as charity bursary partners with The Oracle Shopping Centre and invite the public to a day of awareness, empowerment, and community fundraising on Thursday, 19th June 2025.
The event will begin with a screening of “Life in Your Blood”, a powerful and informative docudrama exploring the lived experiences of individuals with sickle cell disorder. The screening will take place at 12:00 PM, followed by a Q&A session and an opportunity for local businesses, healthcare professionals and community organisations to connect over light lunch and refreshments.
“We’re honoured to partner with The Oracle to raise awareness about a condition that affects over 15,000 people in the UK, yet remains widely misunderstood,” said Hayley King, founder of Cianna’s Smile.
“This event is a chance to bring the community together, share stories that matter, and invite people to take action.”
From 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the public is invited to take part in a high-energy “Sit Ups for Sickle Cell” challenge, held in the main mall. Participants will be encouraged to complete as many sit-ups as they can, with scores tracked live on a leaderboard.
Donations raised will go directly towards funding a summer respite break for children living with sickle cell and their families — offering much-needed rest, joy and connection.
Fitness clubs, schools, workplaces, and individuals are all welcome to take part. Those interested in participating or supporting can email events@ciannassmile.co.uk or simply turn up and join in on the day.
