A POST-PUNK/Goth band will be bringing their sounds to Reading next month.
Club Velicty and New Mind Promotions are teaming up for a double-bill of music at The Face Bar, thanks to Leeds-based The March Violets and Reading-based The Go Go Cult.
Founded in 1981, the Violets incorporate singers with drum machine rhythms and echo-laden electric guitar, in the style of fellow Leeds band the Sisters of Mercy.
Seven of their singles reached the UK indie Chart and the Natural History collection also was an indie hit reaching number three in 1984.
Their last tour was in 2015, and much has changed sine then, including band member Simon Denbigh having a life-changing stroke.
Two years ago, Jungle Records released Big Soul Kiss (The BBC Sessions double album) for Record Store Day 2021, and it sold out its entire pressing in 24 hours.
The band siad: “We were amazed at the response, absolutely amazed. We faced a choice – to fade away quietly or go out with a celebration.
“We feel for Simon, and honour his massive artistic contribution and intense vision as one of The March Violets founding members.
“He’s irreplaceable, so we’re not going to try.
“We believe the legacy of The March Violets deserves a far better conclusion than sinking into silence, and now is the right time to do it.”
For the gig, founder-members Rosie Garland and Tom Ashton are joined by William Faith (musician and vocalist with Faith & the Muse, Conflict and The Bellwether Syndicate). And there will be some new music as the band are back in the studio.
The support is The Go Go Cult: Reading-based world-class billy punks.
