A READING school which supports autistic children and young people has welcomed a delegation of educators from Uzbekistan as part of an international training and research programme.
The two-week programme is led by the RiX Inclusive Research Centre at the University of East London.
The delegation from the International Inclusive Hub in Tashkent has spent ten days in the UK taking part in a programme focused on inclusive education, Universal Design for Learning and specialist support for learners with additional needs.
As part of this programme, Liberty Academy Trust delivered two days of specialist training, showcasing their approach for supporting autistic pupils and strengthening inclusive teaching practice.
During their visit to Thames Valley School–part of Liberty Academy Trust–the group met staff, joined discussions about inclusive learning, and visited classrooms and therapy sessions to observe how the school supports young people to develop confidence, communication skills and independence.
Organisers say the visit formed a core component of a wider partnership between RiX Inclusive Research Centre and UEL.
Nic Crossley, CEO of Liberty Academy Trust, said: “We were delighted to welcome our colleagues from Uzbekistan–sharing ideas across countries strengthens our collective ability to support students with additional needs.
“Thames Valley School staff did a wonderful job showcasing their daily work to ensure all learners feel understood, included, and able to succeed.”
Liz Wood, Interim Principal of Thames Valley School, said: “Our visitors were highly engaged and keen to learn about how we support our students. It was a pleasure to host them, and we look forward to continuing this partnership.”
Thames Valley School provides specialist learning for autistic children and young people, supporting them to develop communication skills, independence and academic progress within a nurturing environment.
