A RESTAURANT in Reading is one of 16 branches set to close, resulting in job losses, it has been announced.
Today (Wednesday, January 14) TGI Fridays has announced that 456 employees will be out of work as it is set to close branches around the country.
It comes after the chain was sold as part of a bid to keep the brand going following the business going into administration.
While 33 of the restaurant’s branches will remain open, its outlet in Reading is among those set to be shuttered, alongside those in Staines, Crawley, and Stratford.
Reading’s closest branch is now the outlet in High Wycombe.
An administrator was appointed to oversee the Liberty bar and Restaurant Group, which manages TGI Fridays, earlier this week, prompting an immediate sale of the brand’s business and other assets.
It is understood that nearly 1,200 were saved as part of the sale.
TGI Fridays’ President said that he believed it was the “best outcome” for the business, preserving jobs and “offer[ing] a strong platform for success and growth.”
