IT’S a tradition that dates back centuries and it returned to Reading and Wokingham last week.
The King’s Swan Warden travelled across the River Thames to check on the health of cygnets, find out if there were any injuries, and take part in an annual count.
They travelled from Sunbury Lock on Monday, July 17, reaching Sonning on Wednesday, and travelling through Caversham, Mapledurham and Goring on the Thursday, before ending in Abingdon on Friday.
The team were headed up, as ever, by the King’s Swan Marker David Barber, and seen wearing their traditional scarlet uniforms.
Along the way they met schools so they could learn more about the riverside wildlife.
