A READING organisation supporting LGBTQ+ people is seeking volunteers.
Support U, which offers help and resources to those who need support with LGBTQ+ issues in the Thames Valley area, has posted to social media seeking support.
The service is run by volunteers, who work to provide online, phone, and face-to-face support, but had to temporarily halt its immediate services back in January due to growing demand.
The organisation posted on Twitter that it would be closed between Monday-Friday, January 9-13, to spend time re-structuring its provisions to meet demand.
The post read: “During this week, we will be developing our service to ensure we can continue to provide first-class support to the increasing 6,400 support requests we receive a year.”
Now it is seeking more volunteers to help it continue to offer its level of support and provision of a first point of contact for those who need it.
Volunteers at the service are given a full induction to the service, including care training, office and IT skills, and mentoring.
Volunteers must be over 18 and able to work in the UK, with a minimum commitment of four hours a week.
