A STELLAR event is returning once again but with a new twist, raising money for charity.

The Sue Ryder Starlight Hike is back for another year, raising vital funds for the charity which provides palliative and bereavement support.

Residents are invited to spend a night under the stars for the annual event which sees participants taking part in a 10km hike.

Those taking part can don fancy dress, flashing headgear, and face paints, as well as take a moment at the dedicated area to remember a loved one.

This year the event is taking place at its new home at the Mapledurham Estate, and will also feature a new donation station where unwanted clothes can be donated to be sold at Sue Ryder charity shop branches.

Sue Soffe, Senior Community Fundraiser for Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading, said: “The evening is an opportunity for the community to get together and light up the skies for their loved ones, raise funds, and help create a future where everyone has access to care and support at the end of their life.

“Take part as a team, raising funds jointly, or individually, and together we can ensure that no one has to face dying or grief alone.

“If this sounds like something you don’t want to miss out on sign up today.”

She explained: “If you can’t join us on the hike but still want to be part of this incredible event, we are also looking for volunteers to support the event. Contact us to find out more – we can’t wait to see you all there.”

Broadcast journalist and presenter Chris Hollins is lending his support to Sue Ryder’s Starlight Hike in Thames Valley.

He said: “I know how much Sue Ryder means to local families and how important their work is in supporting people approaching the end of their lives or grieving.

“That’s why I am encouraging everyone to step out at Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Thames Valley at the glorious Mapledurham Estate and support the charity so they can continue to be there when we need them most.”

The Sue Ryder Starlight Walk takes place from 5pm on Saturday, October 5, at the Mapledurham Estate.
