A chance to enjoy the golden age of steam railways is coming to Reading in September

A CHANCE to recreate the bygone era of rail travel is on offer to passengers this September as a steam locomotive makes its way through Reading.

The 61306 Mayflower will be en route from London Paddington to Cardiff on Saturday, September 16.

The carriages have been restored and include period details, making it an authentic day out.

The scenery will be enjoyable too; rural Somerset, the River Severn and the Welsh coastline.

There will be an optional guided tour of the Highgrove Royal Gardens, and a chance to try a cream tea.

A second option is to join the Dean Forest Railway excursion to experience a typical country branch line.

With five stations along the way there is an opportunity to explore the local area taking in woodland walks and country pubs, the Severn estuary and historic Lydney Harbour with views across the Severn.

There will also be an opportunity to watch the locomotive turning and visit the restoration shed.

The tour is operated by the Steam Dreams Rail Co, and it offers a choice of three classes: Pullman Style Dining, First Class and Premium Standard.
