THE LAUGHTER and chit-chat which ordinarily fills the Whitley Community Cafe was replaced by cackles and scary music as Hallowe’en descended on South Reading.
Children from around the ward took part in a range of spooky activities, including apple bobbing, themed games, trick or treating and cake decorating. With the centre plunged into darkness, flashing lights proved to be visitors’ only reprieve.
Organised by the Whitley Community Development Association, the event gave families the opportunity to dress the part, with many showcasing their creative talents through fancy dress costumes.
The charity’s photographer, David Turner, said: “Adults and children alike clearly enjoyed the experience. Adding to the atmosphere were the mums, dads and youngsters who did a great job dressing up.
“Once I had taken the photographs I left as I was so scared.”
