‘Silverware is good no matter the competition’: Clarke looks ahead to Reading FC U21s cup final

Reading FC Under 21s player John Clarke praised the fans’ support as the Royals qualified for the final four in the Premier League 2 play-offs.

Clarke has had to bide his time having missed more than a year of football due to injury.

However, he has made a huge impact on his return and netted twice to help the Royals get past Nottingham Forest in the Premier League 2 play-off quarter-finals.

“I’m happy to get the goals and the boys worked hard as always and now onto the semis,” said Clarke.

“The lads make it easy for me to be honest, if I’m stood on the box I’ll try and get my head on everything. With Matty’s (Carson) quality delivering it, it makes it a bit easier as well.”

Having been on a superb run of scoring form, Clarke admitted that he is surprised at his recent purple patch.

He continued: “I was surprised by that, I hadn’t scored in two years before, but it’s a good feeling when you score so I just want to do it again.

“It was tough when I first got going because when you get back you just want to play more and more.

“Once I’ve started playing more I’ve kept my spot so it’s something I need to do for the rest of the games as well.

“It’s massive, if you thought Reading would have been in the top four in the country at the start of the season you wouldn’t have said that.

“We’re here and lets hope that we win it now, that’s what we’ve got to do.”

Clarke is also looking ahead to the Berks & Bucks cup final

He said: “Silverware is good no matter the competition, it’s always good to lift a trophy.

“It will be a physical game but the lads will get stuck in, you saw that today (Saturday), we all throw our bodies at the ball.

“Hopefully the fans can come down and back us like they did today (Saturday), the support was unbelievable, as many down as possible would be good and see us lift a trophy hopefully.”
