SHOWCASE cinemas around the UK, including one on the border of Reading and Wokingham, could be in line to be bought after the brand has been put on sale.
It comes after a merger deal between Paramount, which owns and operates Showcase cinemas internationally, and Skydance Media closed earlier this month.
The deal is worth $8 billion, and will see Paramount reconstructed into three ‘more streamlined’ sectors, one managing its studios, one managing its TV media, and one managing its direct-to-consumer offerings.
After the merger, sixteen cinemas in the UK, including a site in Winnersh, are expected to be sold as part of the streamlining.
It is currently unclear whether the cinemas will remain in use once sold–or even if they will be sold as a package or individually.
The announcement also comes just months after plans to build a branch of restaurant chain Five Guys on the Winnersh site were green-light by Wokingham Borough Council.
Work began at the south side of the Winnersh Showcase’s car park just weeks ago.
