Ruben Selles is confident that Reading Football Club is ‘close’ to entering a new chapter and understands that a takeover deal is nearing its completion.
Speaking at the club’s Bearwood Park training ground for the first time this season, Selles confirmed that understands that a deal is close, but not yet finalised.
It is believed that former Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig, along with consortium Chiron Sports, will be purchasing the club from Dai Yongge.
“We expected that it (the takeover) wasn’t going to be as easy as it looks so we just wait.
“There is still hope that it can happen sooner than later. We have been in all the stages of the situation.
“Maybe I’m wrong and we can go into one more chapter, but hopefully we are close to opening a new chapter for the club and getting some calmness around.
“I see that in a certain period of time it can be solved and hopefully we can be in the next chapter of the club.
“It’s not easy this kind of takeover as they (the potential owners) need to analyse every detail because you’re buying a business and need to know how it’s run, where is the money, where do they need to put the money.”
Despite a deal being close, Selles admitted that there is still hesitation while a deal has not yet been formally ratified.
He continued: “I have constant conversations internally and as I understand, it’s not far away from being complete. But there is always a risk that until it is complete that it is not going to be complete but I think it’s going to happen.
“As much as I can (I have spoken with new potential owners), they have requested me to speak a couple of times and I did it.
“We are still in the sensitive period that we have been in. I think if it happens then we will be in a better place as a club.”
