Reading FC boss Ruben Selles has confirmed that star Harvey Knibbs missed out on today’s home victory against Wigan due to a groin injury.
The attacker was notably absent from the squad today leading to much concern from fans, despite the player still being in attendance at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
Selles confirmed that he had picked up the injury in a training session and after a scan on Friday the player will now be out for 3 to 4 weeks, a huge miss for the Berkshire club.
He said: “Yes, he (Harvey) had a problem with his groin yesterday during the training. We scanned that yesterday evening, and sadly he will be out three to four weeks.”
Despite the negative news over his injury, Selles spoke of his pride and delight in his side’s performance this afternoon as they secured their first home win of the season.
Selles said: “I thought the boys played a really good game. We were dominant from the very beginning. We showed that we wanted to win the game and of course we scored the first goal early on.”
“They start to control the ball and we didn’t quite get the pressure for 10 minutes. We just fixed the pressure. Then from that moment we start to win more balls and then again dominated possession.”
When questioned on the new potential ownership of Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair being present, he confirmed that he hadn’t spoken to them but hoped their support will stay with his side moving forwards.
“I think Rob and his group or the people that are coming in, I think that they appreciate what we have been doing or what we do and they will be very supportive for us even more in the future.” He said.
Looking to the upcoming games he touched upon the potential selection choices for the Bristol Street Motors Cup game against West Ham United U21’s on Tuesday night.
He shared: “We approach this as usual. We have a group of young players energetic. They are working really hard in the in the league and making good appearances.”
“We are just pushing those that are coming from the Academy to be ready to make that step up. So, the cup is a good moment to give some minutes for them but still be competitive and try to win the game.”
