THE ROYAL Albion, Oxford Road, has come under new management, kicking off its new weekly events with a live DJ.

The venue is celebrating its recent re-opening with deals on beer, wine, cocktails, with DJ Killah Kutz performing on Friday, September 16.

Sean Peacock has taken up management of the pub and says that he is looking to bring it into the twenty-first century.

“I’m trying to reach everyone in the community – at the moment we’re getting a really good response from the locals, and that means a lot.

“This pub means a lot to a lot of people, there are some who’ve been coming all their life, and our crowd here is so diverse.”

He has a background as a Rosette chef and a promoter, and says that he will bring his experience to the pub.

“We’re gonna do a roast dinner, which will be easily the best in town, with proper gravy and big Yorkshire puddings.

“But during the week, I’ll do something more fun – dirty fries, share platters, and that kind of thing – and we hope to open a café in the mornings, but we’re still going through some renovations at the moment.”

He says also that the pub’s tradition of live music will continue.

“We’ve got a big package of live music stuff coming up, with open-mics so that musicians can come and show off,

“But I also want to be able to guarantee people a paid gig and we can look after them, because I believe in having that system, which a lot more venues should be doing.”

This support and welcoming of artists will extend to punters, with Sean saying: “The aim is also to cater to women and couples.

“It’s important to make them feel comfortable here and that there’s a nice atmosphere because if they can’t feel comfortable here, I’ve failed as a manager.”

The pub will be offering karaoke on Fridays, with live music or DJs on Saturdays.

As well as live events, it is currently offering reduced prices, with all pints at £2.50, cocktails for £5, and a range of gins in its new gin bar.

DJ Killah Kutz will perform at The Royal Albion, Oxford Road, at 8pm on Friday, September 16.
