A READING Rotary club has praised commuters and shoppers for their generosity.

The Rotary Club of Reading Abbey, and other Reading Rotary clubs, gathered at Reading Station and inside The Oracle shopping centre to collect for Children in Need.

Thanks to the generosity of passers by, they have raised a huge sum for the appeal.

“The Good People of Reading showed once again how generous they are by supporting BBC Children In Need,” said Peter Mason from the Reading Abbey group.

“Local schools raised about £5,000, so together with about £6,000 collected at the station and inside the Oracle, we expect to be able to give well over £10,000 to BBC Children in Need.

“None of this could have happened without the fantastic support from local schools, GWR and The Oracle.
