A CHARITABLE group of Rotarians has delivered hundreds of meals for individuals and families in the borough.

The Rotary Club of Maiden Erlegh’s (RME) food distribution programme will enable 2,000 frozen meals to go to individuals and families in the community throughout January and February.

Funded by the group’s October Charity Art and Craft Fair, the meals mark a collaborative effort between RME, The Thomas Franks Foundation’s Feeding the Communities programme, and Leighton Park School.

The initiative involves RME raising funds and overseeing the distribution process, while Thomas Franks Foundation staff at Leighton Park School prepare and package the meals.

Leighton Park School generously provides its premises as the central hub for cooking and distribution, with meals subsequently delivered by Rotary to various community hubs across Reading, Shinfield, Winnersh, Wokingham, and Finchamstead.

These include community centres, churches, food banks, and food share organizations, who all play a crucial role in passing on the food to local families in need.

Scott Trathen, Joint President of RME, said: “This project is a significant endeavour for us, and we are thrilled to be able to assist so many people throughout the area.

“The generosity of the public at our Art and Craft Fair has made it possible, and our partnerships with the Thomas Franks Foundation and Leighton Park School have been instrumental in providing real benefits to the local community, particularly during these challenging times.”

The Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh (RME) is a community-focused organization that raises funds and provides support for a wide range of charitable projects.

Committed to improving the lives of local residents, the group has raised over £25,000 annually for initiatives focused on food security, children’s services, community-driven programmes, and international appeals.
