A road in Caversham will stay closed for months due to a sinkhole that was caused by a burst water pipe.
The sinkhole in Kidmore Road, Caversham first emerged on Monday, January 13.
Thames Water is responsible for the piping and sewer network.
A stretch of the road has been closed for months, which has meant drivers can no longer use Kidmore Road to get to Tokers Green or down into Reading.
Drivers have been using Shepherds Lane, Upper Woodcote Road and other local roads to complete their journeys.
Thames Water began a 15-week pipe fixing programme in August, which was expected to be completed on October 27.
However, difficulties with groundwork means the reopening will be delayed.
The road closure is expected to last for 11 months in total, as restrictions are expected to be removed on Friday, December 12.
That is according to the roadworks website One Network.
A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and will update all stakeholders as soon as we are able to.
“During the ongoing ground stabilisation works a secondary ground feature has been identified.
“We are now working closely with our contractors, site teams and Reading Borough Council Highways and Streetworks Department to assess the situation and agree the next steps.
“Whilst we finalise these plans it is possible that there may be temporary access restrictions and that the road closure permit and bus stop suspensions may need to be extended.
“This is essential to ensure the health and safety of the public and teams on site.”
