A COMPANY that owns a building in Reading town centre has applied for permission to removed cladding from its exterior.
Planning agents Oxford Architects have submitted a request to Reading Borough Council for the action on Queens Wharf, at the junction of Queens Road and Watlington Street. The firm, acting on behalf of The Queens Wharf RTM, said this covering potentially poses a fire safety risk and is therefore “not providing a safe environment for its residents”.
The existing insulated render system and metal cladding would be replaced by a fire compliant insulation and render with a powder coated panel cladding.
Last November, a separate company, Metrix Developments, was refused permission to convert defunct ground floor offices into apartments (applications 221383 and 221384).
This new proposal can be seen by logging on to Reading Borough Council’s planning website, searching for application number 231112.
