Reading have completed the permanent signing of defender Haydon Roberts from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and becomes the Royals’ latest addition as head coach Leam Richardson continues to shape his squad.

Roberts is comfortable playing across the back line but is primarily used as a left-back. He has already built up significant experience at Championship level despite his age.

Speaking after the deal was confirmed, Richardson said: “We’re delighted to welcome Haydon to the club on a permanent deal. He’s a player we’ve been aware of for some time and someone we feel will be a really good fit for what we’re building here.

“He’s already made a decent number of appearances at Championship level, which says a lot about his ability and mentality. He brings athleticism and versatility, particularly down the left side, and we’re looking forward to getting him settled in quickly and seeing the impact he can make.”

He joins the squad as well as right-back Ryan Nyambe, whose signing was confirmed earlier today as he joined on loan until the end of the season from Derby County.
