ARMED Forces Day is a national event showing support and appreciation for service personnel, past and present, including Reservists, veterans, and cadets as well as their families.
It is the culmination of a week’s worth of events around the country honouring those who serve and provides an opportunity to raise money for charities that support them.
Reading’s event saw parades through Broad Street featuring the Reading Scottish Pipe Band, who played as the marchers processed, as well as cadets and reserves.
There were also stalls from the British Legion, Reading Ex-British Gurkha Association, and the branches of the British Armed Forces.
Mayor of Reading Cllr Glen Dennis said: “It was wonderful to mark Armed Forces Day on Saturday with a range of fundraising, activity, and information stalls in Broad Street supporting all those who make up the Armed Forces community.
“Thanks to everyone who took part on the day including the Tilehurst British Legion, SSAFA, 7 Rifles, 381 (Reading) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets, The Forgotten British Gurkha Veterans Charity, Forces Employment Charity, Reading Ex British Gurkha Association and one of my Mayoral Charities this year the Reading Prostate Cancer Support Group.
“Thanks also to the wonderful Reading Scottish Pipe Band for their performances throughout the afternoon.”
