A READING man has been jailed for nearly two-and-a-half years for drug offences in Reading.
Nigel Haines, 52 and of Carsdale Road, was sentenced to two years and five months in prison at a hearing at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, July 2.
He pleaded guilty at the hearing to two counts of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs, namely crack cocaine and heroin, as well as a further count of acquiring criminal property.
It follows an incident during which, at around 9.20pm on Friday, May 17, officers stopped Haines while he was on Lowerfield Road.
He was searched after having been observed being involved in a suspected drug deal earlier that day.
Officers found him to be in possession of 17 wraps of cocaine and heroin, around £159 in cash, and a mobile phone.
He was subsequently arrested and charged.
A search of his home address uncovered records of drug transactions on torn pieces of paper which had been thrown away.
Investigating officer PC Liam Steele, based at Reading Police Station, said: “I am glad that Nigel Haines has been given a custodial sentence after pleading guilty to these offences while on bail for a similar offence 10 days previously.
“We will continue to proactively target and prosecute offenders involved in the supply of drugs.
“Our activity will be both visible and covert, aimed at disrupting and pursuing offenders.
“I would like to highlight that information from the public around drug supply offences in Reading plays an important role in developing intelligence into a proactive investigation.
