READING FC’s Simod Cup trophy has returned home to the town’s museum and is on display for fans to view.

Royals legend Jerry Williams, who was part of the winning squad that defeated Luton Town at Wembley Stadium in 1988, was on hand to place the trophy in its rightful place at Reading Museum.

The Simod Cup will be on display at Reading Museum from October 27 – December 23.

Recounting his memories of the special day at Wembley, Jerry Williams said: “We were worthy winners. It was great for Reading, we had 40,000 people there.

“There were some memorable games on the way and you start to believe that you can do something and achieve what we did.

“We beat Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest which was a very memorable game for me personally playing up against Stuart Pearce.

“The semi-final which went to penalties against Coventry was a bit nerve wracking.

“I always remember walking out there and the atmosphere was electric. It was a special moment to walk on the hallowed turf. Not many people do that so it was a very special moment.

“At the time you don’t appreciate what you’ve achieved until you reflect on years to come.

“The fact it’s the only trophy that we (Reading) has won at Wembley makes it extra special.”
