Reading have completed the loan signing of Derby County defender Ryan Nyambe, bolstering their defensive options for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
The 28-year-old Namibian international, who primarily plays at right-back, arrives at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on a temporary deal from the Championship club. Nyambe, a former Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic player, brings a wealth of experience from his time in the English Football League, where he has amassed over 200 league appearances before joining Derby County in 2023.
Nyambe has found first-team opportunities limited at Derby this season as competition for places has intensified, with the emergence of other full-back options pushing him down the pecking order. The move to Reading is seen as a chance for him to play regular football and strengthen a Royals side seeking defensive solidity as they push through the second half of the League One campaign.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Ryan to the club,” said manager Leam Richardson.
“First and foremost, he’s a great guy and a real character to have around the group.
“He knows exactly what it takes to get out of League One and has hundreds of matches of experience at both League One and Championship level. Ryan brings quality, versatility and real professionalism, and he’ll add valuable depth to the back line for the remainder of the season.”
The defender is expected to compete for the right-back berth, offering Richardson a more experienced alternative in defence. His arrival comes at a key time for the club as they aim to climb the League One table and build momentum ahead of the crucial run-in.
He will eligible to make his debut against Barnsley on Saturday, subject to EFL ratification.
