Reading FC bagged their first win of the new campaign with an away victory at Fratton Park as they got the better of Championship side Portsmouth.

The Royals have had a tough start to their League One season having lost their opening two fixtures without scoring a goal, while Portsmouth kicked off their Championship season last weekend with an away win at Oxford United.

However, Noel Hunt’s side were able to deliver a knockout blow to their Championship opposition despite making nine changes as they confirmed their place in the second-round draw.

More than 1,000 Reading fans made the trip down south to see their team pick up their first win of the season and will be hoping that this result will be the catalyst to kickstart their campaign.

Andre Garcia opened the scoring for Reading in the 34th minute and Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan doubled that advantage just four minutes later with a cool finish.

A Portsmouth side which included former Royal John Swift were unable to inspire themselves to a fightback as Reading went through despite grabbing a goal in stoppage time to make it 2-1.
