Reading FC manager Noel Hunt confirmed that he will be without one of his key players for the rest of the season.

Michael Craig will miss the remainder of the League One campaign after he suffered an injury.

The 21-year-old is due to be out of contract at the end of the current season, as are several players, with the club unable to properly start negotiations until the takeover situation is resolved.

Despite central midfield being his natural position, Craig has deputised at right-back for the majority of the season due to the absence of club captain Andy Yiadom.

Yiadom was on the sidelines for 10 months with a knee injury but finally returned at the weekend as a substitute in Reading’s 2-1 away success at Wigan Athletic.

He may not be required to come back into the first-team fold in the starting eleven quicker than expected following news of Craig’s injury.

Craig has played 30 times in League One this season and has netted two goals.

His injury is expected to keep him out for around two months, however he may be able to return to fitness for the play-offs if the Royals manage to finish in the top six.

Reading are currently in 9th position, but are just three points off the play-off places.

Reading are back in action tonight (Tuesday) as they host relegation battling Exeter City at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
