READING boss Ruben Selles admitted that he cannot ‘control’ if the club loses first-team players in the January transfer window.
Despite his determination to keep the squad together this January for the remainder of the League One season, Selles admitted that Reading’s financial situation could force them into selling some of their assets.
“I cannot control if we lose players because of financial situations,” said Selles.
The Royals are unable to bring in any players this window other than free agents and loans, while players such as midfielder Charlie Savage has been linked with a move away this month.
It is reported that Derby County are one of the club’s interested in signing Savage, but Selles wants to keep him at the club.
“Charlie (Savage), as any other player, I want to stay and perform,” Selles continued.
“I think players like Charlie are very important for us and I would like to keep him with me.”
Savage was one of several summer signings for the Royals who rebuild their squad in the summer after relegation from the Championship.
The 20-year-old left Manchester United to sign for Reading on a four-year deal with the player keen to leave the Premier League side to pursue regular senior football.
It is believed that Man United would receive a significant amount of money if the player is sold on a permanent deal with a sell on clause inserted into his contract when he joined Reading.
Savage has made 28 appearances in all competitions and has scored four times for the Royals so far this season.
