Reading FC are facing a fight to keep hold of star midfielder Charlie Savage amid more interest from Championship teams in the January transfer window.
Savage has been subject to transfer speculation all month, including from rivals Oxford United who reportedly launched two separate bids for the player.
However, their interest has cooled after being rejected by Reading who have valued the player well above what Oxford were prepared to pay.
It is understood that the Royals have set an asking price of around £1.5million for the Welsh international.
With a week to go until the January transfer window closes it has been reported that both Norwich City and Portsmouth are keen to sign Savage.
While Reading are determined to keep hold of the player, a sale could be on the cards if either club matches the club’s valuation for the central midfielder. While a move hasn’t been ruled out, Reading Today understands that the player is settled at Reading and will not push for a transfer this month.
While the transfer fee could amount to around £1.5million, Savage’s former club Manchester United would be owed a significant sell-on fee, believed to be around 50%.
Savage has been a key figure for Reading since arriving from United in the summer of 2023 and has made a total of 147 appearances in all competitions.
