Reading ended the calendar year with a hard-earned point at Peterborough United to extend their unbeaten run to three matches in League One.
The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when Daniel Kyerewaa scored from close range after a well-worked corner routine involving Lewis Wing, Charlie Savage and Jack Marriott.
Peterborough responded with sustained pressure before the break and went close on several occasions, with Finley Burns making key blocks and Joel Pereira producing important saves to preserve Reading’s advantage at half-time.
The hosts dominated possession after the interval and were rewarded 12 minutes from time when Peter Kioso’s low cross from the right was turned in by Gustav Lindgren from close range to level the match.
Both sides had chances to win it late on. Pereira denied Lindgren in stoppage time before Reading almost snatched victory at the other end, but Alex Bass saved Wing’s long-range effort and the rebound evaded the onrushing attackers.
The draw gives Reading seven points from the festive period, while Peterborough remain frustrated after failing to turn their possession into victory.
The result puts Reading in 10th position in League One on 29 points from 22 games.
Next up is a home fixture on New Year’s Day against 18th placed Burton Albion.
