Defender Amadou Mbengue has completed his free transfer from Reading FC to join Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

The former Royal had plenty of interested clubs after his excellent performances throughout the past two campaigns, including offers from several Championship teams.

However, Mbengue has chosen to sign for QPR following the expiration of his contract with Reading despite being offered an extension with the Royals.

The 23-year-old centre-back formed a superb partnership with fellow young star Tyler Bindon last season as the Royals pushed for a play-off place despite all the off-field turmoil, only to miss out on the final day of the campaign.

Mbengue arrived at Reading on a free transfer from Metz in 2022 and has gone on to make more than 100 appearances in blue and white in all competitions.

Noel Hunt’s team are desperate to keep hold of the defender having already lost Bindon to Nottingham Forest last January, who rejoined on a loan deal until the end of last season.

However, it looks likely that Mbengue’s future lies away from the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Reading will need reinforcements at the back this summer regardless of Mbengue’s future and have already brought in former Lincoln City captain Paudie O’Connor to the club on a free transfer.
