Reading have completed the signing of centre-back Benn Ward from Accrington Stanley on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
It is understood that the Royals have spent around £500,000 to capture the signature of the defender, beating competition from other League One clubs, including Wigan Athletic.
The 21-year-old defender joins the League One side after impressing in League Two, where he has been highly regarded for his composure in possession and ball-playing ability at the heart of defence.
Ward becomes manager Leam Richardson’s latest addition as Reading continue to reshape their squad, with the Royals boss highlighting the defender’s character and potential.
“We’re really pleased to bring Benn to the club,” Richardson said. “He’s a young player with excellent qualities and strong character, and someone who is keen to work hard and continue improving.
“Benn has shown a real desire to learn, and we believe Reading FC is the right environment for him to develop and take the next steps in his career.”
Ward is eligible to make his Reading debut in Saturday’s League One fixture away at Northampton Town.
