Reading FC CEO Joe Jacobson has revealed that he still wants the club to make at least four new signings before the summer transfer window shuts.
The Royals announced their latest signing on Thursday night with the addition of winger Paddy Lane for an undisclosed fee from Portsmouth.
Speaking at a fans pre-season social event at the Purple Turtle, CEO Joe Jacobson and Director of Recruitment Brian Carey were quizzed by supporters.
Speaking on the transfer window, Jacobson said: “Right now we need and want at least four. We will get at least four in the door before the end of August.
“We’re working really hard all the time to get those in. We’re in talks with players, have had contracts agreed with players and are waiting on things to happen with clubs. Four minimum is what we need for the squad to bolster it up. We know we need some depth.”
Carey added: “In the short term we want to get Noel as good of a team as possible on the pitch. We’re working really hard to do that.
“I’m not shocked by some of the things that have gone on, some of the stories and some of the wages clubs are paying and good luck to them.
“Has it stopped us doing things? Possibly. It’s up to us to get our own house in order and get the players we want.
“The key is to be able to adapt. There are plenty of players out there and it’s fitting in the right one and the right character for us.”
Reading open their League One season today away at Lincoln City (3pm kick-off).
