Reading FC captain Andy Yiadom will miss the start of the season with a knee injury after multiple procedures have proved unsuccessful.
The skipper struggled throughout last season with knee issues, but was able to manage his injury and played 32 League One matches in the 23/24 campaign.
However, Reading boss Ruben Selles confirmed that ‘multiple’ knee procedures have proved unsuccessful which will keep him out for around six to eight weeks.
Selles said: “Andy was out at the last part of last season. We gave time for the knee to settle and the different procedures the doctors did with him didn’t work and we need to wait another six to eight weeks to see if he can come back on time.
“There is no guarantee that after eight weeks he will be back with us.
“It was a really long summer for them- eight weeks, but almost everyone came back fit which is important because from day zero we demand a lot of intensity in our training sessions.
“During the season you have a couple of injuries but besides Andy Yiadom, which is a little bit longer term from the last season, we didn’t have any setbacks.”
Reading play their final pre-season friendly this weekend when they host Hull City at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
The League One season kickstarts on Saturday, August 10 away to Birmingham City.
