Reading-based charity Christian Community Action is facing an uncertain future due to rising costs and decreased donations.
The charity, which was founded more than 30 years ago, is facing what it describes as ‘mounting financial challenges’ which is threatening its existence as costs have risen by 233% since the pandemic.
CCA says that it has offered support to more than 20,000 individuals since being founded 32 years ago in the form of providing second hand furniture, clothing and other household support packs.
Head of operations Clarie said: “”Every day, we see the impact that CCA has on people’s lives.
“From providing a bed for a family that has been sleeping on the floor to offering warm clothing to those facing the harsh realities of winter, It’s heartbreaking to think that we may not be able to continue providing these essential services to the community.
“The need for our services has been growing each year, but the resources available to us have reduced; we are facing an uphill battle, trying to balance the needs of the community with the harsh realities of our financial situation. Without immediate intervention, we may be forced to make some difficult decisions about the future of our organisation.”
The price hike in utility bills, coupled with increased expenses associated with maintaining its services, has placed an immense strain on its financial resources.
They also say that increased costs has been compounded by a decline in monetary donations.
This impact led to the Whitley shop and support centre having to close earlier in the year.
