READING Buses has announced that it will be providing a brand new service to London as rail travel shuts down over the Christmas period.
With rail services closed on Boxing Day, Saturday, December 24, the travel provider has announced a new service which will connect Reading with London.
For the first time, the Green Line 702 service will run from Reading to Slough throughout Boxing Day, with a guaranteed connection to Windsor via the Green Line 703.
Connections from Windsor will see that passengers have a route from Reading through to London.
As well as its Green Line services, Reading Buses has also announced its services around Reading.
There will be no service on Christmas Day.
On Christmas Eve, most buses will run a normal service, with an early finish between around 7-8pm except for 24-hour services, which will run until 11pm.
Boxing Day sees a special timetable in place on all services, running from 9am until around 6pm.
Sunday timetables will run on Tuesday, December 27, and Monday, January 2.
On Wednesday to Saturday, December 28-31, Saturday timetables will run.
Additional Purple 17 buses will be available after midnight on New Year’s Eve, and a Sunday service will run on New Year’s Day.
Robert Williams, Reading Buses’ chief executive officer, said: “With the traditional railway shutdown on Boxing Day we thought this was a great opportunity to help keep people connected.
“Adult returns from Reading to London are only £21 and group tickets for any four travelling together are just £55 on-bus or £44 on our Green Line mobile app.
“While our drivers will be taking a well deserved break on Christmas Day, we have ensured that there are plenty of buses over the Christmas period so the people of Reading remain connected to their friends and families.”
“We wish all our customers a very happy Christmas and New Year.”
