READING Athletics Ladies tackled the infamously hilly course at the National road relays in Sutton Park last weekend.

After an action packed track season and just a few weeks back training for most of the athletes, five of Reading’s own were ready to race on an unusually hot October afternoon.

Naomi Harris and Emma Howsham bundled themselves into the start pen where chaos ensued as teams fought for positions before the gun had even signalled the start of the race.

They led out the first legs of the relay teams, both successfully managing to navigate the bustle of the first kilometre before settling into positions for a strong first race of the season.

Next up, Vicky Hiscock was up to tackle the mountainous course. After finding her groove early in the race, her smooth running style quickly emerged through the woods section to take on the jill on the home straight.

Reading’s third runner, Laurie Marlow, was waiting eagerly to set off and put in a gritty shift as the hills proved to be no match for her determined race head.
