GYMS across Reading are encouraging members to lace up in aid of a local adoption and trauma support charity.
Three PureGym centres are urging members to take part in Marathon May to help raise funds in aid of the work of Parents and Children Together (PACT).
PACT helps children find adoptive families as well as offering a range of support to women and children with experience of trauma and domestic abuse.
The gym is promoting participation of Marathon in May, which sees participants take on a 26-mile challenge spread over the 31 days of May in aid of the charity’s work.
Its support included a special charity class at the Basingstoke Road branch on Monday (April 28) in an effort to raise extra funds.
This year’s event features new options for taking part, including offerings for children and pets, as well as those looking to go the extra mile.
Chloe Matthews, Gym Manager at PureGym in Basingstoke Road Reading, said: “Our PureGym team is excited to be involved in PACT’s Marathon in May challenge.
“PACT is such a great charity to support, especially for our local community and I encourage everyone of all ages and abilities to get active and take part in any way they can.”
“We will be supporting the challenge in our club and some of our team will personally be taking part too.
“We are looking forward to our members getting involved and everyone getting fit whilst raising money for a great cause.”
PACT provides bespoke adoption support packages in the form of therapeutic support, counselling, advice, training, virtual events and support in education.
In 2023-2024, 193 families were supported by PACT’s adoption support team.
PACT runs Alana House in Reading which supports and enables women to address particular behaviours and assess life circumstances that may have put them in a vulnerable position or at risk of offending; 181 women accessed support at Alana House in 2023-2024
