A PUNK rock band that has lasted the ages will be coming to Reading next weekend, thanks to Club Velocity.

It has teamed up with New Mind Promotions to bring Eater to The Face Bar.

Originally from north London, they took their name from a Marc Bolan lyric, and were part of the first wave of the Nu Wave.

Their sound has been characterised as “run-of-the-mill dole queue punk rock” and “basic boy-ish punk rock”.

In October 2001, the band’s second single, Thinking of the USA, was included in Mojo magazine’s list of the best punk rock singles of all time. It was originally released in June 1977.

In 1999, the track appeared on the five-CD Universal Records box set 1-2-3-4 Punk & New Wave 1976-1979.

In 2022, Andy Blade, the lead singer of Eater, joined forces with members of glam gunslingers Jo Jo & The Teeth giving the band a distinctly 21st century slant.

Their set includes tracks from their classic debut album, all the singles…and more.

This is no backwards-looking nostalgic trip, but a distinctly anarchic brand of in-yer face Rock’n’Roll.

Support comes from Jo Jo & The Big Teeth and Juliet & The Raging Romeos.

The show takes place from 8pm on Friday, January 19, at the Chatham Street venue.
