PROGRESS Theatre has announced three new productions to kick off its latest season.
Autumn will see shows exploring gothic horror, tragedy, and political thrills at the theatre.
The first show will be Gagarin Way by Gregory Burke, a political thriller that explores the myth of a peaceful, post-industrial Scotland.
The production features violent twists and sharp dialogue, wrestling with politics and ideology, and was first performed in 2001.
It will be followed up with a Shakespearean classic reimagined in Titus Andronicus: Shakespeare’s Bloody Horror Show.
The original is reborn as an 80s-inspired horror production, featuring stylised gore, dark humour, and soundscapes–billed as Hellraiser meets Evil Dead.
The Autumn season will conclude with David Calcutt’s adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles.
It follows the life of the titular Tess, including her romantic exploits and betrayals–performed with a live musical score.
Gagarin Way by Gregory Burke is showing at Progress Theatre, The Mount, from September 29–October 4.
Titus Andronicus: Shakespeare’s Bloody Horror Show is showing from October 27–November 1.
Tess of the D’Urbervilles is showing from November 24–29.
