PROGRESS Theatre is back with its open-air show for 2024, The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde.
The classic comedy follows the story of two bachelors, John ‘Jack’ Worthing and Algernon ‘Algy’ Moncrieff as they build new identities to help them escape their less-than-ideal lives.
It sees their attempts to win the hearts of two women who claim only to love men called Earnest, leading to an increasingly complex tissue of lies and misadventures in a lampoon of Victorian society.
Matthew Urwin stars as Algernon, Dean Stephenson as Lane, Christ West as Jack, and Stephanie Clark as Gwendoline.
Lady Bracknell is portrayed by Caroline Warner, and the production also stars Liz Paulo, Nancy Gittus, Paul Gittus, and John Goodman.
The show is directed by Steph Dewar.
Progress Theatre is bringing The Importance of Being Earnest to the Abbey Ruins this summer, running from Wednesday-Saturday, July 17-27.
