Progress is being made on the construction of a new gym at a retail park in Reading.
JD Sports will be opening a gym that will feature a sauna, a sled track, a hammer strength kit and more at Reading Link Retail Park.
The JD Gyms website states: “Our gym in Reading is coming soon!
“Expect an incredible fitness facility packed with hundreds of pieces of kit and industry-leading machines, a huge free weights and cardio area, plus a dedicated glute training zone.
“Enjoy luxury changing rooms and the convenience of 24/7 access!
“There will be plenty of free parking too.
“Experience premium fitness in stylish surroundings at an unbeatable price!”
But first, construction has to take place. So far, the superstructure for the building has been installed.
The site has been secured by Sorbon Estates, the company that owns the retail park.
The gym is being built after Reading Borough Council’s planning applications committee approved the project last June.
Since then, Sorbon Estates has been submitting details of the project for approval.
The hours of noisy construction, collections, maintenance and cleaning are limited to 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, with no work on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
Disturbance outside of these times can be reported to the council.
The construction has resulted in the loss of 47 parking spaces at the retail park, leaving 264 spaces remaining for customers of the other business, which include Home Bargains, Matalan and The Food Warehouse.
You can view the terms that construction workers must follow by typing reference PL/24/1371 into the council’s planning portal.
