Welcome All, Smelly Wellies, sponsor Deloitte
A ‘care farm’ which caters for children with additional needs and disabilities has been praised as “a safe haven where acceptance and inclusivity are brought to the forefront.”
Smelly Wellies has been nominated for the Welcome All award sponsored by Deloitte.
Their nominator said: “This care farm truly has care at its core; providing tailored experiences and ensuring they are responsive and respectful to the needs of each individual.
“Staff aim to facilitate a culture where everyone is able to express themselves without judgement, fear or expectation,” they added.
The farm, which won the Pride of Reading Mental Health Champion award last year, “provides a slice of tranquillity and calm among a chaotic world.”
It “embraces with open barn doors the varying experiences, preferences, challenges and goals of everyone with compassion and understanding.”
Smelly Wellies also offer learning courses and volunteer and paid opportunities for individuals who have faced barriers in accessing education and employment.
“The many positive reviews and recommendations show just how valuable Smelly Wellies is as an inclusive, therapeutic and inspiring service provider and its impact on both staff and visitors alike is something to be hugely celebrated,” said the nominator.
The award recognises diversity and inclusiveness in Reading as a welcoming town to all and as City of Sanctuary for ten years. Pride of Reading organisers are seeking nominations for businesses and organisations who are welcoming and supporting our town’s diverse communities.
