Community Champion, Thames Vale Vultures, sponsor Reading Football Club
A band of motorcycle owners who are active in a number of events, including Reading’s Christmas toy run, have been put forward for the Community Champion award.
Their nominator said: “They fundraise by holding a custom motorcycle show and also paying money out of their own pockets,
“Once a month they go out, buy food and fuel for their van, go to Reading town centre and feed people who are down on their luck. They also collect blankets and sleeping bags and hand them out as well.
“They call this Project Serena named after a nurse who works at the Royal Berkshire Hospital,” they added.
“ I am one of the organisers of the Reading Toy Run and DR B’s custom motorcycle show.
“This group of people also come out and help me twice a year in the summer for Dr B’s Bike show in aid of Barnardo’s and at Christmas for the Reading Toy Run.
“If anyone from Reading deserves recognition for their work in the community these people do.”
