Fundraiser of the Year, Tanya Briess, sponsor Cherubs Floral Design

Tanya Briess tragically lost her 17-year-old daughter Alexandra in 2021 during a routine operation at the RBH after she suffered a severe allergic reaction to one of the anaesthetic medicines used.

Her nominator for Fundraiser of the Year said of Tanya: “She has lifted herself from her grief to run the London Marathon in 2024 on behalf of Anaphylaxis UK to bring attention to the situation and promote work to prevent another tragedy.”

Funeral director Julian Walker from AB Walker said: “I met with the family whilst planning Alex’s funeral in Reading and, whilst all deaths are distressing, this situation has had a profound impact on our whole team,

“Tanya’s grief has resulted in a truly remarkable personal and selfless response to bring attention to the risks and possible mitigation of a repeat of such a tragedy and we are in awe of what she has done

“The coroner responsible for the inquest was vocal in demanding change after the circumstances were investigated and Alex’s parents pushed to challenge how preventable it was.”
